Orango is the third largest of the Bijagos Islands. It's the center of the Orango Islands National Park, a protected reserve where it's possible to spot the rare saltwater hippos, which are considered sacred by the people in the Bijagos. The hippos live in both sea and freshwater bodies. There are guided tours that take visitors through the island, which seems more like an African savanna than most of the other islands in the Bijagos.
