Sand Point is located on Popof Island, near the entrance to the Bering Sea. It is home to the largest fishing fleet in the Aleutian Islands, and experiences a swell in population during the summer when salmon fishing is in full swing. Most of the inhabitants are of Aleut descent, and make a living off of the local fishing industry. Visitors interested in the outdoors will find many opportunities for adventure at Sand Point. There is a network of hiking trails, and various wildlife view points throughout the area which provide the possibility of seeing the herd of bison that make their home on the island. Other activities include bird watching, sea kayaking, and fishing.
